Virgil van Dijk has admitted that he had ‘goosebumps’ when he played at Celtic Park in big Champions League matches due to the atmosphere generated from the stands.
Celtic fans are renowned for creating an intimidating atmosphere at home and they have had plenty to cheer in recent years with the club winning six consecutive Scottish Premiership titles. Southampton defender Van Dijk played a pivotal role in two of those title wins in 2014 and 2015 and he also helped the club lift the Scottish League Cup before moving South of the border to join the Saints.
When asked about the Celtic Park atmosphere, Virgil van Dijk, speaking at the launch of EA SPORTS FIFA 18, said: -It should be in [the FIFA 18 game]. But you can’t describe it, especially with the European nights it’s something out of this world. In the first season, I played Champions League there, playing against Barcelona, Ajax, AC Milan and the atmosphere in the stadium was indescribable.
Van Dijk was named in the PFA Scottish Team of the Year in both of his seasons with Celtic and has further developed his game in the Premier League, becoming one of the most highly-rated defenders in the division.
Celtic, meanwhile, are in action in the Champions League on Wednesday night away to Anderlecht.
